Client-Focused Design

What is Client-Focused Design?  It means that every client has their own style, and a great design is one that maintains the personal style of the client.  When all is completed, the finished design looks and feels like my clients, not like David Hedgepeth. I’m not a glitzy, shiny, trendy designer. I believe that classic design never goes out of style.  As a designer I have to find new ways to make those classic designs modern and individual.

Every design project should reflect the homeowner and not the designer. This young homeowner and her husband have a love for traditional design, so I worked to bring a fresh youthful look to their traditional home. Youthful, not modern, means clean design through fabrics, rugs, lighting and furniture. Never forgetting how to integrate new purchases with their existing pieces. Harmony in coexisting is the key.

Commercial design, unlike residential design, should appeal to the general public but still reflect the style of the business owner. The main focus was to update a 1980’s interior into a fresh 2018 design. Saving the good bones of the medical office, I was able to keep existing cabinetry, hardware, some of the wall covering and paint while updating the flooring, countertops, dated wall covering, paint and restrooms. The finished project is clean, fresh and ready for another 30 years.

Working with a client who has been planning their forever home for years is always a fun partnership. If I am lucky, by the end of the project a friendship is born. For many of my clients, their furniture, art and accessories all have a personal history. My final design must take that into account. Learning how to use my client’s possessions, and giving them new a life by up dating and using them in new ways, means I’m giving new memories to my friends.
